Article — Vermeersch, On Forbidden Books
Article 11
¶1.
Books are condemned in which God, or the Blessed Virgin Mary, or the Saints, or the Catholic Church and her Worship, or the Sacraments, or the Apostolic See is disparaged. To the same judgment of reprobation are subject those works in which the concept of the inspiration of Sacred Scripture is perverted, or its extension is too much narrowed. Books are also prohibited which, by designed effort, assail the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, or the clerical or religious state, with insults.
By the three sentences which it contains, this article is divided into three parts. It is useful to explain these separately.
