Wouters, Manual of Moral Theology

Vol. I, Bk. II, Tr. II, Diss. I, Pt. VII, Sect. I, Ch. II, Art. I, § VI, Point V. On the Effects of an Alternative Contract

n. 855.

I. Notion. An alternative contract is had when someone is bound to furnish one out of two or more things, so that, once one has been furnished legitimately, he has satisfied. I said legitimately, that is, at his own will if the choice is in the hands of the debtor, and at the will of the creditor if it is in the hands of the creditor.

II. The effects are sufficiently drawn out from the notion; besides this, let the law of one's country be consulted.
