Cases — Thomas Slater, S.J.
Cases of Conscience for English-Speaking Countries, Volume I
First published 1911. Slater's Cases of Conscience for English-Speaking Countries, Volume I (Benziger Brothers, 1911), transcribed page by page from the print with every word preserved; the Latin of the cases, which Slater set in Latin, stands here in a literal English translation made for this library, and the Latin titles, formulas and technical terms are kept as he printed them. A hundred and twenty-six cases put and solved — the drunkard who says he can no longer restrain himself, the man who prefers one creditor before surrendering his goods, the secret a confessor may not use — arranged as the manuals are: human acts, conscience, law, sin, faith and charity, then the commandments one by one, restitution and contracts. Slater set each case in Latin and answered it in English; the cases stand here in English too. The companion in practice to his Manual, and the first volume of the library's casebooks.
