Dissertation II — On charity towards God
¶1.
The last place among the theological virtues charity occupies, because it is their end and goal. This is the bond of Christian perfection, without which all the rest profit nothing, and with which all things profit unto eternal life. But — what cannot be sufficiently lamented — not a few Casuists have attempted, by their lax opinions, as it were to extinguish this virtue above the rest, and to reduce its exercise almost to nothing, as will become plain from the following theses.
Within this division
- Chapter I — A census of the proscribed propositions
- Chapter II — An inventory of propositions which seem lax
- Chapter III — The notion, object, prerogatives, and precept of theological charity
- Chapter IV — The times are designated at which this precept of loving God presses
- Chapter V — Consequences, which urge the exercises and offices of the theological virtues
