Chapter I — Propositions condemned by the Church
Alexander VII condemned the following.
I. A priest can lawfully accept a twofold stipend for the same Mass, by applying to the petitioner even that most special part of the fruit which corresponds to the celebrant himself, and this after the decree of Urban VIII. This is the 8th.
II. After the decree of Urban, a priest to whom Masses to be celebrated are delivered can satisfy through another, a lesser stipend being conferred upon him, another part of the stipend being retained for himself. This is the 9th.
III. It is not against justice to accept a stipend for several sacrifices and to offer one sacrifice; neither is it against fidelity, even if I promise, by a promise confirmed even by an oath, to him who gives the stipend, that I will offer it for no other. This is the 10th.
IV. The command of Trent made to a priest sacrificing of necessity in mortal sin, that he confess as soon as possible, is a counsel, not a precept. This is the 38th.
V. That particle "as soon as possible" is understood as when the priest shall confess at his own time. This is the 39th.
Innocent XI proscribed the following.
VI. It is not unlawful in conferring the sacraments to follow a probable opinion concerning the validity of the sacrament, the safer being left aside, unless law, agreement, or the danger of incurring grave loss forbid it. Hence a merely probable opinion is not to be used in the conferring of Baptism, of priestly Orders, or of the episcopate. This is the 1st.
VII. Urgent grave fear is a just cause of simulating the administration of the sacraments. This is the 29th.
VIII. Frequent confession and communion, even in those who live in the manner of the heathen, is a mark of predestination. This is the 56th.
Alexander VIII the following.
IX. They are to be judged sacrilegious who claim a right to receiving communion before they have done condign penance for their offences. This is the 22nd.
X. Similarly they are to be kept from holy communion in whom there is not yet the most pure love of God and free from every admixture. This is the 23rd.
XI. Baptism was valid which was sometimes conferred under this form: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, those words being omitted, I baptize thee. This is the 29th.
XII. Baptism is valid conferred by a minister who observes the whole external rite and form of baptizing; but within, in his heart, resolves with himself: I do not intend to do what the Church does. This is the 30th.
