preface — Vermeersch, On Chastity

Dedication

¶18.

This work, composed in defense of Catholic moral doctrine, in which we are compelled to mention impure things so that pure things may be more pleasing, we wish to dedicate wholly and piously to the Undefiled Virgin. And, relying upon the protection of Mary Immaculate, we now trust that those things which, under Her auspices, we have handed down, whether for explaining the duties and merits of the virtue of chastity or for weighing and healing the contrary vices, may bring some benefit to those for whom these pages are intended, that is, to priests, especially those who by their office ought to draw souls back from sins and advance them toward higher pursuits. That the pious Mother may obtain this for us from her beloved Son, we humbly pray!
