Title — Liber Sextus
Title XX: On Things Done by Force or Because of Fear
Chapter I
An absolution from or revocation of excommunication, suspension, or interdict extorted through force does not hold, and the person extorting it is excommunicated by the law itself. John Andrew.
Gregory X at the General Council of Lyons. By authority of the present constitution we wholly deprive of force the benefit of absolution from a sentence of excommunication, or any revocation of it, or of suspension or even interdict, extorted through force or fear. Moreover, lest the audacity of violence increase without punishment, we decree that those who extort an absolution or revocation of this kind by force or fear are subject to the sentence of excommunication.
Ioann. Andr.
Gregorius X. in concilio generali Lugdunensi.
