document — Palmieri, On Christian Marriage

From the Council of Barcelona, A.D. 599

¶1212.

Canon IV. If any virgin, by her own will, having cast aside lay dress and being clothed according to the manner of devoted women, has promised to preserve chastity, or if any persons of either sex, by seeking the blessing of penance, have received it from a priest, and have of their own accord passed to earthly marriages, or women violently taken away have been unwilling to separate themselves from the violator of chastity, let both, expelled from the thresholds of the churches, be separated from the communion of Catholic persons in such a way that no consolation whatever even of conversation be left to them.

¶1213.
