document — Palmieri, On Christian Marriage

From the Council of Lillebonne, celebrated by William, King of the English, with the Bishops and Nobles of Normandy, A.D. 1080

¶1618.

Canon II. Concerning those who hold wives from their own kinship and the wives of their relatives, let the bishops execute canonical justice. For the King sustains or protects nothing therefrom; but rather, by helping the bishops, he admonishes that the law of God be firmly held.

¶1619.

Judgment concerning matrimonial causes pertains to the Church. Cf. the response of Alexander II, above.
