document — Palmieri, On Christian Marriage

From the Council of Macon, A.D. 581

¶1178.

Canon XII. But concerning girls who have vowed themselves to God and from the splendid adornment of age have passed to earthly nuptials, we have decreed that this must be guarded: that if any girl, voluntarily or at the request of her parents, has professed religion or has been consecrated with a blessing, and afterward has presumed to pass to marriage or to the enticements of the world, which is to be judged rather fornication than marriage, until her departure, together with him who has mingled himself with her in a consortship of this sort, she shall be deprived of communion.

¶1179.
