document — Palmieri, On Christian Marriage

From the Council of Macon, A.D. 585

¶1183.

Canon XVI. Whatever woman was the wife of a subdeacon, or exorcist, or acolyte, when he has died, let her not dare to associate herself a second time in marriage. But if she has done this, let her be separated and handed over in a convent of girls of God, and remain there until the departure of her life.

¶1184.

Cf. Canon XXXII of the Council of Epaon, A.D. 517.

¶1185.

Canon XVIII. Incestuous copulation, in which the laws have sanctioned that neither spouse nor right nuptials can be named, the Catholic Church utterly detests and abominates; and it promises to afflict with graver penalties those who, despising the degrees of their birth with lustful ardor, roll about, like foulest swine, in their own filth, which is impiety (or, in the alternate reading: in their own mire or their own filth, which is mud, mire, foulness).
