document — Palmieri, On Christian Marriage

From the Epistle of Vigilius, to Caesarius, Bishop of Arles, A.D. 538

¶1151.

A grave penance is imposed on King Theodebert, who had presumed upon an illicit marriage by right with the wife of his brother.

¶1152.

Although perhaps Vigilius was not yet the true Pontiff, nevertheless he is a suitable witness of the law then in force in the Roman Church.
