From the Synod of St. Patrick, in Ireland, About A.D. 450
Canon XVIII. A virgin who has vowed to God to remain chaste and afterwards has married a carnal spouse, let her be of excommunication until she is converted; if she has been converted and has dismissed the adulterer, let her do penance, and afterwards let them not dwell in one house nor in one town.
Patrick follows the decrees of the Roman See (of Siricius and Innocent).
Canon XIX. A Christian woman who has received a man in honorable nuptials and afterwards has departed from the first and has joined herself to an adulterer, she who does these things, let her be of excommunication.
Canon XXII. If anyone has handed over his daughter to a man in honorable nuptials, and she has loved another, and he consents to his daughter and has received a dowry, let both be excluded from the Church.
