On the Seventh and Tenth Precept of the Decalogue
¶1.
You shall not commit theft. You shall not covet the house of your neighbor, nor his servant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor all things which are his. - Exod. xx, 15 and 17
The Seventh Precept of the Decalogue prohibits every external injustice in the goods of fortune of one's neighbor. - But the Tenth also forbids the internal sins of covetousness, that is, of desire for the goods of one's neighbor and of unjust action. Since we are going to speak of the various sins of injustice concerning goods of fortune in the particular treatise on justice and right, there is nothing that should be added here concerning these two precepts.
