Manual Masses
The definition and determination of manual Masses which is made here is to be understood and held only for the effects of the present Decree. Paragraph Declarat.
Now these are Masses entrusted to others to be celebrated: 1. those which are not established in perpetuity or quasi-perpetuity; 2. those which are established in perpetuity, but not constituted in some church or annexed to some benefice; 3. those which are constituted in some church, or annexed to some benefice, but are celebrated outside that church, or by another and not by the beneficiary, for whatever reason. Paragraphs Declarat, Pariter, Ad instar.
But Masses annexed to benefices, which by law can and must be handed over to other Priests when the beneficiary does not celebrate and apply them himself, are those which from the tables of foundation the beneficiary is not bound to celebrate himself. St. Alphonsus, book 6, n. 330; paragraph Ad instar.
Likewise Masses which from a perpetual burden adhere to a church, monastery, confraternities, or any pious places whatever, which by law can be handed over to other priests, are those which are constituted in no church, so that they can be applied anywhere by any priest at the judgment of the administrators. Paragraph Ad instar; Sacred Congregation of the Council, December 19, 1904.
