Motu Proprio *Abhinc duos annos*
Concerning the divine Offices to be ordered in a new way in some part. Pius PP. X.
"...
I. According to the ancient custom of the Church, let the Offices of Sundays not easily be omitted. Therefore no feast, not even of the Lord, is hereafter to be established to be celebrated on Sundays; nevertheless from these let there be excepted, because of its particular nature, that which occurs from the first to the fifth day of January, which We assign to be kept in honor of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, because of the connection which it has with the mystery of the Circumcision. But feasts to which up to now a Sunday had been attributed, all, except the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, are perpetually to be transferred to another day. But lest perhaps during Lent some one of the Offices of the Sundays be omitted, which are wonderfully made for exciting Christian penance in souls, We promote the second, third, and fourth Sundays of that time to the rank of the first class.
"
II. Since the celebration of Octaves is an impediment to the recitation of the Psalter, so that this may happen more rarely, in the future only doubles of the first class which have entire Octaves are to preserve them; but in these same Octaves, excepting privileged ones, the psalms of the current feria are to be used. But the Octaves of doubles of the second class are to be celebrated only on the octave day, and indeed with simple rite.
"
III. To Lessons from occurring Scripture let Responsories of the Time always adhere.
"
IV. No translation of feasts which are celebrated in the universal Church, not even perpetual, is to be made, except of doubles of the first and second class." October 23, 1913; Acta Apostolicae Sedis, vol. 5, p. 449 ff.
