preface — Vermeersch, Questions on Justice

Letter of Pope Leo XIII

¶26.

Beloved Son, health and apostolic benediction.

¶27.

We have received the two volumes recently published by you, in one of which you discourse on Justice, while in the other you explain the Encyclical Letter that We issued not long ago concerning Christian Democracy. Each work is assuredly suited to the present time and most useful. Since, moreover, We are not unaware of the excellence of your talent and of the learning that you imbibed at Rome in the Gregorian University, We have no doubt at all that you have treated lucidly and correctly the subject that you undertook, one indeed commensurate with your powers. We therefore thank you for this dutiful service. And as a token of Our paternal benevolence and a pledge of divine gifts, We most lovingly in the Lord impart to you the apostolic benediction.
