C. Key of the Moral Works of St. Alphonsus, or Certain Rules for Discerning His True Sentences
It is of the greatest interest that a disciple of St. Alphonsus clearly know which are the opinions which the Holy Doctor professes; since these alone have been approved by the Church, and by no means the others which indeed are mentioned by St. Alphonsus, but which he himself does not embrace. This is, moreover, of greater moment because some Writers here and there falsely ascribe several opinions to the Holy Doctor, and thus not a few students of his Moral Theology are led into error. Therefore we have thought it worth the labor to set forth here at least certain general rules, by the help of which a disciple of St. Alphonsus may be able more easily to discern his genuine sentence in various questions. - Hence we shall say a few things: 1. Concerning the various moral Works of the Holy Doctor; 2. Concerning the manner in which St. A. is everywhere accustomed to enunciate his own sentence.
