Treatise — Konings, Theologia Moralis

TREATISE ON RIGHT AND JUSTICE

¶1.

NOTE. - Those things which in this treatise and in the following treatise On Contracts are alleged from civil laws, for the most part pertain only to the Common Law. For not all the laws of the individual States could be brought forward in this Compendium, nor even would they be brought forward with any utility, since in the individual States either derogation is made from the Common Law, or something is added to it, and they are changed equally from day to day. Therefore let the reader beware lest he think that these things, either alone or in all States individually, have force in all things; but let him also consult the laws of the places in which he is engaged in the Sacred Ministry. - Moreover let him observe that it has not been in my mind to form a Jurist, but a Moralist, for whom it is enough to know that concerning civil laws which is necessary for introducing for himself and for others a doubt, concerning which he may consult, or take care that consultation be made of, either books or jurists.
