ARTICLE I: On Excommunications *Latae Sententiae*
¶1313.
- Excommunications are given which are either 1. reserved to the Roman Pontiff in a special way; or 2. reserved to the same simply; or 3. reserved to Ordinaries; or 4. reserved to no one.
Those which are reviewed in the first part are with very good right disposed thus: The first five fortify the FOUNDATION of the Church, namely faith and the divine Constitution of the Church reposed in the Supreme Pontiff and Bishops; the four following, together with the thirteenth concerning intruded persons, defend the POWER and LIBERTY of the Church; and the last three protect the GOODS of the Church, whether spiritual, excomm. 10, or temporal. In the second series almost the same order recurs.
