Chapter III: On The Subject Of Order

¶1911.
  1. The SUBJECT of Order is a male and baptized man, who, if he is an adult, must have at least a habitual intention of receiving the Sacrament.11 These things are required for VALID reception of Order, as is established from what was said concerning Sacraments in general, nn. 1433 and 1434. See besides, as to the Episcopate, n. 1924, 1.

But for the LICIT reception of Order, CONDITIONS of a threefold kind are required. The first kind embraces those things which are intrinsic to the Ordinand, or regard his soul, namely divine vocation, the intention of becoming a cleric, competent knowledge, and probity of life.12 The second kind embraces many extrinsic things, which are required of the Ordinand, such as immunity from censure and irregularity, canonical age, Confirmation, the exercise of the Order received, and title of sustenance. The third kind finally regards the very mode of Ordination, such as Ordination by degrees, interstices, time, place, reception of the Eucharist, and the legitimate Bishop, who at the same time ordains and celebrates Mass. - Each point is to be weighed accurately.
