On The Dominion Of Spouses According To The Civil Codes Of Certain Nations

¶12.

Preliminary Note. The civil codes of diverse nations, in almost the same way as Roman law, distinguish between dotal, paraphernal, and common goods, and also, just as Roman law, attribute to the husband the administration and use of all goods, excepting only paraphernal goods, although sometimes they limit the husband's faculty somewhat. Therefore this must be kept before the eyes as a general rule: The husband has the use and administration of all the goods of the wife. Paraphernal goods are excepted.

Very briefly there are added the civil statutes of certain nations, which the confessor must know and according to which he can judge occurring cases. But if greater difficulties occur, let the confessor not omit to seek counsel from one skilled in law.
