Section — Prümmer, Manuale Theologiae Moralis
§ 3. On Injury From Stuprum, Fornication, Adultery
Notions. Stuprum, strictly speaking, is the defloration of a virgin still existing under paternal care;200 fornication is carnal intercourse had with an unmarried woman who has already lost virginity; adultery is carnal intercourse had with a person joined to another in marriage. Here we do not treat of these sins insofar as they wound chastity, but insofar as they wound, or at least can wound, commutative justice. But since there are special and grave difficulties concerning the reparation of damage arisen from adultery, first we treat of the reparation of damage arisen from any carnal intercourse whatever, and then of the reparation of damage arisen from adulterous intercourse.
200 Cf. S. theol. 2, 2, q. 154, a. 6. See other acceptions of stuprum below, n. 699, in the treatise on chastity.
