Section I. On Right And On The Virtue Of Justice Itself

¶8.

In this first section we shall treat 1. of right itself, which is the proper object of the virtue of justice, and which it is of much importance to understand rightly; for several false notions of right also harm Catholic Moral Theology and are not only errors in juridical science. 2. The character of the virtue of justice in general must be explained. 3. But since man, from frailty or malice, often wounds the obligations imposed from justice, it is then necessary to treat both of the wounding and of the reparation of justice. 4. Finally, because a great part of the obligations of justice arises from contracts entered into, lastly it is necessary to treat of contracts. Thus the whole treatise concerning the virtue of justice itself is contained in the four following questions:

  1. On right itself.
  2. On the virtue of justice considered in itself.
  3. On the wounding of justice and on the reparation of wounded justice.
  4. On contracts.
