Chapter — Billuart, Summa Summae · from Schola Thomistica
On the Vices Opposed to Charity
The vices opposed to charity are, according to the Author, in the questions cited: hatred of God and of neighbor, which is opposed to love itself; sloth, which is opposed to joy in the divine good; envy, which is opposed to joy in the good of another; discord, which is opposed to the effect of charity, which is peace; contention, which is opposed to peace as regards speech; schism, war, strife, and sedition, which are opposed to peace as regards deed; and scandal, which is opposed to charity as regards beneficence. Of all these we shall speak at greater or lesser length, according to the greater or lesser necessity of the subject matter, in this dissertation.
