paragraph — Noldin, Summa of Moral Theology
§ 3. From the Council of Trent
¶1.
- Fourth interdict. The metropolitan is bound to denounce to the Roman pontiff, within three months by letters or messenger, bishops absent beyond the time of the second six-month period, and the older resident suffragan bishop is bound likewise to denounce an absent metropolitan, under penalty of interdict from entrance into a church to be incurred by that very fact. Sess. 6. c. 1. De reform.
121.
121. Bishops to whom it pertains contract the censure if they do not denounce to the Roman pontiff within three months a bishop absent from his diocese without just cause beyond a year.
- Fifth interdict. Chapters of churches are subject to ecclesiastical interdict if, the see being vacant, within a year from the day of vacancy they have granted license of being ordained or dimissorial letters to someone who was not constrained by occasion of an ecclesiastical benefice received or to be received. Sess. 7. c. 10. De reform.
122.
122. A chapter can grant dimissorial letters, and therefore contract this censure, only in the first eight days after the death of the bishop; for when these have elapsed, the whole power is transferred to the capitular vicar.
