§ III. On Drafting the Petition

815.

Letters to be directed to the Sacred Congregations can be composed in Latin, Italian, French, German, Spanish, English, and Portuguese; letters to the Sacred Penitentiary can be composed in any language. Nevertheless it is better to use the Latin language.

With these points noted, we will speak specifically of those things which, with the style of the Curia considered, that is, with the will and practice of the Congregation to which the petition is directed considered, must be expressed, and which are contained especially in the Instruction of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide dated May 9, 1877. First, however, we will speak of the petition by which a dispensation is sought for the external forum; then of the petition by which a dispensation is obtained for the internal forum; finally of the petition which regards a marriage invalidly contracted.
