Part II. On the Convalidation of an Invalid Marriage
829.
The convalidation of an invalid marriage can take place in two ways: by simple convalidation and by sanation in the root, as it is called.1 These differ especially in this, that simple convalidation, contrary to sanation in the root, requires renewal of consent, to be furnished at least by one party, as will be clear from what is to be said.
1 Note that marriages, if any are null by reason of impediments abrogated by the new Code, were in no way convalidated by the promulgation itself of the Code. Thus Pontifical Commission, June 2-3, 1918, IV, 7 (A.A.S. 1918, p. 346).
