Part II. On the Manner of Administering Baptism

¶1.

It has been explained above what things are generally required for administering the sacraments validly and licitly. It is sufficient to develop more fully one of the requisites for licit ministration, and to apply it to Baptism, namely the obligation of ministering the sacrament duly, that is, according to the prescriptions of the Church. For the sake of completeness we shall explain both the things which must be observed in the conferral of Baptism and the things which must be observed after it. The prescriptions of the Church regard first the rites and ceremonies, then the sponsors to be used, then the time and place, and finally the notation and proof of Baptism conferred.
