Part II. On the Mode of Receiving a Sacrament

In order that the sacraments produce the twofold effect concerning which there was discussion (n. 5), namely character and grace, they must be received validly and licitly. I said "in order that they produce the twofold effect," since valid reception suffices for producing character alone. In order, moreover, that grace be received, valid and licit reception is required.
