Causa X

GRATIAN. A certain layman seeks to separate from diocesan law a basilica built by him; the bishop contends that the church with its entire endowment pertains to his administration; at length the bishop prevails, and, accompanied through the parishes by soldiers, rages cruelly; he strives to usurp as owed to himself those things which belong to the churches. (Qu. I.) First it is now asked whether the basilica with its entire endowment pertains to the bishop's ordination. (Qu. II.) Second, whether a bishop is permitted to usurp the property of churches. (Qu. III.) Third, what he can exact from his priests under the name of the cathedraticum.
GRATIANUS. Quidam laicus basilicam a se factam a diocesiana lege segregare querit; episcopus ecclesiam cum omni dote sua ad suam dispositionem pertinere contendit; tandem euincit episcopus, per parrochias militibus comitatus crudeliter deseuit; que ecclesiarum sunt tamquam sibi debita usurpare contendit. (Qu. I.) Modo primum queritur, an basilica cum omni dote sua ad episcopi ordinationem pertineat? (Qu. II.) Secundo, an res ecclesiarum episcopis usurpare liceat? (Qu. III.) Tertio, quid nomine cathedratici a suis sacerdotibus exigere ualeat?
