Question IV: For how long a time a census can be sold
I ASSERT with Valencia puncto 4. that a census can be sold both temporal and perpetual, provided a foundation exist, so that it can render the payment. And so the thing perishing, the census also perishes. Whence it comes about that it cannot be perpetual over a person or thing that will perish, but is made according to the state of the thing founding it.
Casas ADDS sect 4. that the purchase of a perpetual, irredeemable census can be made at a lesser price than the payments hoped for, and says this is common among the Doctors. The reason is, because a right is bought which is less than the payment.
On the SAME foundation he concludes sect. 5. that a census even for a time is licit at a lesser price than the quantity of the payments which are to be paid from it.
EODEM fundamento concludit sect.
