Disputation VIII: On the Observance of Feast Days

English · Latin · Both

1.

As God is immense, so He bound His worship to certain places, namely temples, so that it is unlawful without sin to perform anything profane in them: so too, though He is Eternal, He commanded that certain days be kept free for Him and rested from every servile work. But just as God ordained many other things in the law of grace so as to leave their execution to His Church according to place and time, so too the sanctification of the feast day, though it has a Divine origin, nevertheless has its determination of time from the Church, as will appear from what follows immediately.
