Disputation XIV: On Discord and Contention
1.
THESE perversions of the soul agree only in this, that they tear asunder the seamless Tunic of the Lord, which the soldiers themselves did not rend — Charity, that is: the one indeed attacks the truth, which it cannot by arguments, with clamors; the other breaks cords of hearts formerly united by the bond of peace, whence it took the name of Discord.
ISTAE animi pravitates eo solummodo conveniunt, ut inconsutilem Domini Tunicam, cui ipsi pepercere milites, Charitatem utique, dilacerent: Haec quidem veritatem, quam nequit rationibus, clamoribus impugnat; Illa corda, pacis vinculo prius unita, disrumpit, unde discordiae nomen accepit.
