Question — Bontempi, Palladium Theologicum V · from Schola Thomistica
Question XLVI: Whether charity ought to be enlarged in heaven
I assert first, that the acts of Charity will be more intense in the fatherland.
An Charitas debeat in patria dilatari.
Assero primo, Charitatis actus fore intensiores in patria.
It is proved by the Seraphic Doctor, first. When the habit is enlarged, the acts are intensified; but the habit will be widened and enlarged in the fatherland; for God will dwell in the heart in a more excellent way through consummate Charity, due to the fatherland: Therefore.
Probatur a S. Doctore, primo. Ampliato habitu, intenduntur actus; sed habitus in patria dilatabitur, et ampliabitur; quia excellentiori modo habitabit Deus in corde per consummatam Charitatem, debitam patriae: Ergo.
Further: Affection follows cognition; but in the fatherland there will be more perfect cognition: Therefore also more intense affection.
Deinde: Affectio sequitur cognitionem; sed in patria erit perfectior cognitio: Ergo et intensior affectio.
I assert second, that Charity is widened in the fatherland not by the multitude of those to be loved, because then we shall have no enemies to love; nor shall we love the reprobate; yet then we shall have more known predestined ones to love; for then our love will embrace as well those who are in the fatherland as those who are on the way, yet to arrive at the fatherland.
I assert third, that Charity is to be widened by friendly affection. See the Seraphic Doctor. For God will then be loved with a broader and more friendly affection, in himself and in his creatures: For Charity will most affectionately enkindle in itself God and all the blessed.
Assero tertio, dilatandam Charitatem affectu amicabili. Vide Sanctum Doctorem. Nam ampliori et amicabiliori affectu Deus tunc diligetur, in se, et in suis creaturis: Charitas enim sibi Deum, et omnes beatos affectuosissime inviscerabit.
