Disputation XVIII: On Scandal
1.
To the example of a good work, whereby the Church of God is built up, Scandal is opposed, whereby the hostile man labors that it fall into ruin: for he dissolves the cement of Charity, and places in its stead stones of offense, upon which, falling from the structure, they strike their feet who walk iniquitously, as I shall soon say.
Boni operis exemplo, quo Dei Ecclesia aedificatur, opponitur Scandalum, quo satagit inimicus homo ut in ruinam procumbat: hoc enim Charitatis caementum dissolvit, ponitque eius loco lapides offensionis, in quos e structura decidentes, impingunt pedes inique ambulantium, ut mox dicam.
