Subquestion — Bontempi, Palladium Theologicum V · from Schola Thomistica
Subquestion IV: On two further causes excusing from restitution on the part of the debtor
TWO further causes still remain to be examined; the Prior is entrance into Religion; the Other is Cession of goods; in the former one voluntarily loses Dominion over himself; in the latter Dominion over his goods; concerning which it is certain that one validly professing an approved Religion can neither acquire anything for himself nor renounce it; But it is doubtful whether one burdened with debt can bid the world farewell and licitly pronounce the Vows of Religion; Likewise, further, whether one who is beyond possibility, since he is not able to pay, can cede to the creditor the goods he possesses, and thereafter be released from Restitution of the further debt. These I shall weigh in as many doubts.
