Question — Bontempi, Palladium Theologicum V · from Schola Thomistica
Question I: Whether to give alms is an act of charity
I assert that it is an act of Charity.
An dare ELEEMOSYNAM sit actus Charitatis.
Assero, esse actum Charitatis.
IT IS PROVED by S. Bonavent. in 4. dist. 14, p. 2, dub. 5, litt. and Book 6 of the Compendium of Theology, cap. 31, and D. Thom. art. 1. External acts pertain to that virtue to which pertains what is the motive of such an act; but the motive for giving Alms is mercy, of which dist. 9, sect. 3 — for in Greek Eleemosyna is named from mercy; and mercy is an effect of Charity, as I showed in the place cited.
PROBATUR a S. Bonavent. in 4. dist. 14. p. 2. dub. 5. litt. et Lib. 6. Compendii Theologiae, cap. 31. et D. Thom. art. 1.
Next it is proved by D. Bonavent. in the Diaeta, tit. 2, at the end, because this motive is for the love of God, who ascribes it as given to himself Matthew 25.
Deinde probatur a D. Bonavent. in Diaeta, tit. 2. in fine, quia hoc motivum est pro amore Dei, qui eam sibi datam adscribit Matthaei 25.
